Update on our April Mission: Feed My Starving Children

The event was a great success!  We worked with other area churches, and the Cedar Falls Community School District to hold a meal packing event, April 24-26.  Hosted by Holmes Jr. High School, students from area districts and members of area churches packed 108,864 meals which will be distributed to hungry people worldwide.  The food will go to orphans and to victims of acute hunger in the Americas, Africa and Asia.    This is a great feeding ministry, and it is a wonderful way for the people of God to work together.

We are joining with other churches in Cedar Falls and partnering with the Cedar Falls School District to host this event at Holmes Junior High School on April 25 and 26.  Feed My Starving Children packs meals to send to missions and humanitarian agencies worldwide.

FMSC has a scientifically-developed source of food that includes rice, soy, vitamins and vegetables. The community has responded very well by signing up to volunteer to pack the meals and all the available packing times are FULL. This is great news!  We are still accepting monetary contributions toward this great feeding ministry.

We could use a few more people to help clean up from 6:00-8:00pm next Saturday, April 26. This session takes place after the final food-packing session.  By registering for this session, you will help clean up after the event by taking down tables, putting away supplies, washing dishes, sweeping/vacuuming floors, etc.  Follow the “Feed Kids” link on our church website to sign up for this, or mark the tear-off sheet in this bulletin and drop it in the offering plate. Or, Lisa in the church office can get you signed up.

We Fed 22,896 in Two Hours!

About 20 FUMC members of all ages helped with the Feed My Starving Children food packing event at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Waterloo on October 15. We joined forces with 60 other people from all over the Cedar Valley to pack 106 boxes of food for a total of 22,896 servings – enough to serve a nutritious meal every day for a year to 62 starving children all over the world. It took less than two hours of our time to make a world of difference to hundreds of God’s children. Thank you to all who helped with the packing, and also to all who contributed funds to help pay for the food. Supplies for each box of food cost $50, and it is entirely paid for by donations. At 22 cents a meal, it’s money well spent.

Mark your calendar for April 25-26, 2014. The Cedar Falls Ministerial Association and the Cedar Falls Schools will be working together to bring a food packing event to Cedar Falls.
